As my deceased father (Ph.D., educator, professor, college administrator, and college president) would say, “If a person has integrity, nothing else matters. If a person doesn’t have integrity, nothing else matters.”
Jonathan, you have spoken loudly in favor of integrity, and we will follow you down that noble path.
Also the old rule from being a punk kid in the 80s and 90s, once the Nazis show up at the show, you don't have a civil exchange of ideas, you chase them out into the street and make sure that they don't come back. Doesn't matter if they're the gutter punk or Ivy League version, a Nazi is still a Nazi.
One issue I already noticed with Today in Tabs on Beehiiv is that the RSS URL is on a Beehiiv domain (and is different from the old RSS URL, which was *not* on Substack’s), and, worse, all links redirect through a Beehiiv domain, as well. So even if you use a custom domain for your newsletter, there are still a number of invisible hooks depending on Beehiiv, specifically, which could very easily break if Beehiiv ever goes under or if you ever personally choose to move to another provider again.
I don’t think any of this is malicious on their part—though I wouldn’t be surprised if the click-tracking URL redirects from your old Substack newsletters stop working at some point—but you should probably look into having Beehiiv fix these dependencies on their own domains for newsletters that otherwise use independent domains for URLs. You know, just in case.
Hi Jonathan. I don't always agree with what you write but I admire your openness and humility as a human being and it doesn't hurt that you're objectively a damn fine writer. I 100% agree with your decision to leave Substack and am shocked at the sheer maladroit dickishness of Shamus McKenzie and Chris Best. I just signed up for a paid subscription to The Racket (it's the least I can do after your courageous stand) and deleted the Substack app off of my phone. Good luck on Beehive
I’m gonna figure this out. Send me an email — you can reply to a past issue of the Racket. Be sure to include the email you subscribed with in the body of the message.
It seems to be an issue with my VPN. When I turn it off, those links work. Thanks for asking. And congrats on making the move. I suppose I will have to do it myself. Sigh.
When I try to access it using Wi-Fi or mobile on mobile on Chrome, I get this error: theracket.news uses an unsupported protocol. ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH

100% this part.

Hi Jonathan,
I have not been supportive of your posture because as a Black American living in a racist nation, I will never support any type of censorship .
I respect you and your decision to depart Substack.

Good advice.

Very much appreciate it. Look forward to seeing you at the new place.
I applaud your stand. All the best!
Thanks Johnny!
Thanks for making the move off of NaziStack.
I believe I still have time on my subscription and I’m being asked for $60 too. Is it because I never received the link in my email?
I’m gonna figure this out. Send me an email — you can reply to a past issue of the Racket. Be sure to include the email you subscribed with in the body of the message.
I am a subscriber and have, as of now, received nothing. What should i do?
Send me your email. You can reply to any previous edition.
Sorry, reply to “any previous edition”? N
Did you get The Racket via email at any point, or just in the app?
And do I pay the $60 when I sign up? What if I still have time left on my paid subscription to your Substack newsletter? Just kiss it goodbye?
Hey Jonathan -- getting a 404 error when I click the 'get me out of here' button. FYI.
It’s working for me. What browser are you using?

There's a definite transition but I think will be worth it in the end.

Yeah something is screwed up. Use katz.beehiiv.com for now, and we'll get it all fixed up asap.
Thanks for the heads up, I'm sure it will get worked out soon.
